Between Jew and Arab: The Lost Voice of Simon Rawidowicz

Professor David Myers, Director of the UCLA Center for Jewish Studies talks to Mixed Multitudes about his forthcoming book, Between Jew and Arab: The Lost Voice of Simon Rawidowicz.  The book discusses Rawidowicz’s ideology which apparently had two components: 1)the idea that the Jewish community is made up of two equal parts – Israel and Diaspora, and 2)the moral obligation of Israel to protect its Arab minority.

Although Rawidowicz died in 1957, these two issue are still controversial, so this book is not only historical.  In fact, Myers says this about his new book:

I am particularly interested in helping to stimulate a new debate over the contours of and prospects for Jewish collectivity in a world marked by hyper-individualism, on one hand, and a poverty of serious thinking about Jewish collectivity, on the other.
