Survey of Russian Jewry
In a survey of Russian Jewry conducted by the Institute for Jewish Studies in the CIS, Russian Jews said they have a strong Jewish identity which is connected neither to religious observance nor Zionist ideology. Only 9 percent thought it essential to accept the principles of Zionism, while 37 percent deemed this desirable. But 42 percent said that belief in Zionism was unimportant.
