Historical Footage from Pre-State Israel

Yaacov Ben Dov was a documentary filmmaker in Palestine from 1917-1932. The Spielberg Jewish Film Archive has created a film about his work which contains some really amazing historical footage. Ben Dov filmed significant events such as Allenby’s entry into the Old City of Jerusalem in 1917 and the founding of the Hebrew University in 1918, as well as scenes from daily life in the Land of Israel.

The film is about half an hour long. Watch it here.

Thanks for the link. We will be posting more films. We now have a “hanukkah” film up.

What an amazing resource, thanks! We’ve just completed “Israeli Film Week” here in Bonn, in which a series of Israeli films from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s were repristinated and shown (by, e.g., Uri Zohar, Daniel Perlov, etc.). I saw all but two of them. I believe they will be repeating the series in Jerusalem at some point this year … well worth a visit. I recognize some of the footage shown in your link from a Perlov documentary.
