Gaza – Day 6

As Hamas continues to shell Beer Sheva, the capital of the Negev, Israeli armed forces are preparing for a ground assault in Gaza. The Israeli army has been training for an invasion into Gaza since the Second Lebanon War.  Although Hamas has a fairly developed army and lots of ammunition smuggled in through illegal tunnels, the IDF says it is ready to face the Hamas army. A French attempt at arranging a ceasefire was met with a refusal by Israel.

An article in The Forward yesterday questions whether the situation in Gaza might further endanger the Jewish community in Yemen. The leader of the very small community was killed by a Yemeni Arab on Dec. 11. The Yemeni government is intent on protecting the Jews, but some are saying the time has come for the Jews to leave Yemen and settle in the United States or Israel.
